Cairo is so NOISY

People yell in the streets at 6am. People throw their rugs over the side of their balcony and hit them with a stick to get the dust out. Hundreds of cars driving passed us in 10 minutes, honking, honking, honking... Did I mention the kids playing soccer outside my window? The planes flying over head? The prayer messages coming out of speakers on every block, announcing the time to pray..?

Oh, and the bajillions of stray cats who yeowl at random points in the evening, can't forget those poor souls. Yes, Cairo is so noisy and I LOVE IT. As much as I already hate things about this city (which will be explored in a different post sometime), I love how people do what they need to do and they're not afraid to be REALLY loud about it.

Time to study Arabic.

I'm so homesick... :( :(

Love,
Candiace

haha that's awesome. the image that i got in my head when you were talking about the beating of the rugs and then the stray cats was in the monty python movies when there are people dusting out their cats from their windows or doors by smacking them (cat puppets) on the wall with a "mrrrrEEEOOOWWW!" hilarious.

Candiace....Great Visual! I am so happy you are having this experience. This is one of those adventures that will stay with you for the rest of your life. It is awesome getting a new perspective on life and finding your place in it. As you know most people here in the states have such an OFF view on what really goes on in the world. Have a great time, SOAK it all in and stay safe!
Big Hug....Ron

You never know what is going to make an impression on you. Even something as simple as noise can be beautiful. Being an outsider has its advantages. I am sure few natives appreciate the noise as you have. I miss you!!
